Pledge challenges

Pledges have been posted on 29 December. See details further down on that day. Design your own pledge or challenge any of the existing pledges. It's fun for a good purpose. Any person or organization wishing to take up the challenge can either post his commitment directly on this blog or can e-mail his pledge to Gerhard Odendaal at gfo@iburst.co.za' who'll publish your pledge on the blog. Your pledge can also be based on anything else which you may prefer.

South African Treasure Route

Finally we got some decent internet so that we could post a link to one of our sponsors: The South African Treasure Route. Please have a look on the right under 'Sponsors' for a link to their website with some interesting facts, places and people of the N12 Treasure Route.

Loving the restday in Victoria West

Here we stopped for some breakfast venison pie & gingerbeer at the famous Mannetjies Roux antique shop. Posing is the all popular Anna who runs the shop (had her article in the Getaway) and the Legend Mannetjies himself!
Treasures indeed!

Play on the N12

Thanks guys for stopping on the way to Victoria West and handed me a Play and some donations!

Accepting the pledge challenge

Status Management Services pledges to donate R200 for each R1 upwards move on the Barloworld share price from 30 November 2012 until the day Johann arrives in Cape Town. We pledge a further R1 for each km Johann walks as well as R100 per day he finishes earlier than 30 January 2013. We invite others to play along. You do not need to match any other pledges, but please participate to contribute to this worthy campaign. Also spread the message to campaign for road safety programmes 'Buckle-Up' and the promoting of the non-use of cell phones while driving. Have a wonderful and blessed 2013, buckle-up, and drive safely.

Day 28, 28 December 2012, Day 29 is a rest day

Donation Challenge on Steroids!

A friend of my dad's, Ian Nolte, has come forth with a radical donation commitment and challenge to others.
He pledges to donate to QASA R20 for every R1 that Barloworld stock price rises on the JSE from the 30th of Nov '12 to the day that I finish!
To date it has gone from R72.79 to R88.00!

Ons is geseend met goeie gesondheid, en hierdie mense het alle hulp nodig wat hul kan kry' which means he challenges others dealing on the stock exchange to do the same using any stock as basis. Come on people, we are blessed with good health, while these people need every bit of support they can get!

This is an amazing pledge and a challenge to others to make similar pledges. Thanks a million Ian, we are truly grateful! :)

Any person or organization wishing to take up the challenge can either post his commitment directly on this blog or can e-mail his pledge to Gerhard Odendaal at gfo@iburst.co.za' who'll publish your pledge on the blog. Your pledge can also be based on anything else which you may prefer. Enjoy pledging! Have fun!

Concentration Camp Visit

Last night we visited tannie Rina Wiid's farm Doornbult where an Anglo-Boer War concentration camp was situated. Very emotional all that happened there.
But Rina &Lemmer were so nice that they let us stay there for free. Another treasure brought to you by www.satreasureroute.com

Half Way to CT!

Today I will be crossing the halfway mark between Pretoria & Cape Town just after Strydenburg. I can't believe that we've come this far already.
The people that I've met, places that we've seen - what a journey thus far!
I do miss my people at home and my loveliness Nicole so far away.
But let's see where the next half will take us...

Thursday 20 December 2012

Magersfontein

Passing the battlefield where Cronje and de la Ray gave the English a run for their money, was pretty cool. History field trip, check!

Resting at Riverside

Lucy from Riverside Country Club was very friendly. They donated and had us take a picture with a friend who is in a wheelchair as well. Was a great night!

Random kindness

More random kindness at Magersfontein. Thank you.

Golf Estate bliss

We had a lovely time with Gil & Ken from Rotary Kimberley! Your hospitality is very much appreciated. :)

Special Forces Training

I just met a guy training for the special forces. Walking 25km in full kit with 40kgs on his back, and he doesn't weigh more than 70kgs. Respect.

More publicity in Kimberley!

This morning the police escorted us to the Mayibuye monument, where the SABC did an interview with us! Please keep your eyes and ears open tonight on the SABC news channels as well as RSG this afternoon or tomorrow morning. :)
Please keep supporting the Project :)
